Jimmy Shin survived a first-over journey en route to taking home the lion’s share of the purse in Wednesday’s $35,100 Snowman Final at Sudbury Downs.

With driver Justin Turcotte at the lines, Jimmy Shin got away fourth while Suzys Solitaire shot to the top and hit the quarter pole in a :29-second clip. Suzys Solitaire reached the half in 1:00.1 while feeling mild pressure from the first-over attacker, Jimmy Shin. A narrow margin separated those two at the three-quarter marker in 1:30.3, and Koekemoer was sent up three-wide in a bid to join the leaders.

Jimmy Shin used a :30.4 closing panel to win by a pair of lengths over Suzys Solitaire in 2:01.2. Race favourite Koekemoer leveled off in the late stages, but still managed to take home the show dough in the nine-horse affair.

Yvon Duclos of Azilda, ON owns and trains the eight-year-old son of Self Possessed-Armbro Temple. The 20-time winner improved this year’s record to 4-4-2 from 38 starts while pushing his lifetime earnings in excess of $350,000.

Earlier on the card, Lollipop Gal was a going away winner in the $10,000 Snowman Consolation for the tandem of driver Jason Ryan and trainer Geoff Maltby. The six-year-old daughter of Mr Lavec-Wellesley Doll rallied to win by three lengths over race favourite EW Royal Pain in 2:02. Third prize went to B The Snitch.

Sent off at odds of 6-1, the homebred picked up her third win of the year and the ninth of her career for owner/breeder C A Burns Ltd of Toronto, ON. The $5,000 payday boosted her earnings to $56,715.
