A former Canadian horse racing executive is leading the charge to raise funds for The Philippines, which recently endured Typhoon Haiyan, unofficially the strongest tropical cyclone in recorded history.
David Aldred, the former executive director of the BCSA/BCSBS who is now general manager of the Bendigo Harness Racing Club, has stated that the BHRC will be helping raise funds for the Australian Red Cross’ Typhoon Haiyan Appeal during this Friday’s card of live racing at Junortoun's Lord's Raceway.
The news comes courtesy of a report by the Bendigo Advertiser, which explains that the BHRC will donate $1 from every program sold Friday at the track to the ARC. The article also states that the raceway will also collect public donations for the ARC.
"For thousands of people who were left homeless by the earthquake in the Philippines last month, the typhoon has intensified the humanitarian emergency," the Bendigo Advertiser has quoted Aldred as saying.
