Fitzsimmons Reaches 1,000 Win Mark

Trainer Larry Fitzsimmons reached a special career milestone on Saturday night at Western Fair Raceway thanks in part to a victory by veteran trotter Cr Bellman

Cr Bellman, owned by Neal Oksenberg of North York, Ont., went wire-to-wire to pull off a 12-1 upset in his 10th race $6,000 claiming assignment, providing London, Ont. resident Fitzsimmons with his 1,000th career training triumph. The 13-year-old son of Royal Troubador held off first over challenger Tough Deal to win by a quarter length in 2:03.1 with Alfred Carroll in the sulky.

Fitzsimmons has sent out 25 winners so far this year for earnings of more than $200,000. Lifetime, his trainees have banked more than $6.1 million.

My favorite was when Larry competed driving with Easy Magregor during the days of Mr. Peter Ray,WB Arnie, Smokey Fella, New Departure.

Congratulations Larry. Time flies doesn't it? It seems like just yesterday you were winning regularly at Western Fair Raceway with the maneater- Delbert.
