A six-race matinee was presented Monday at Exhibition Park Raceway, and horsemen Todd Trites and George Rennison put on a clinic.
Todd Trites racked up five trips to victory lane, and trainer George Rennison celebrated a four-win performance.
The duo joined forces to win the first three races with Bettimontheriver (2:08.1), Distinctiv Rusty (2:02.3) and Bettors Pride (2:03.2), and they also clicked with Bettim Jenny (2:01.1) in Race 5.
Trites also captured the feature race – the $1,500 Remembrance Day Pace – with the Robert MacNeil-owned and –trained Union Man Hanover in 2:02.4.
The 10-year-old son of Artiscape-Up Front Rose sat last in the field of five for the first half of the contest while City Of The Year carved out fractions of :29.3 and 1:01.2. He was still in charge of the tempo at the three-quarter pole in 1:32.2, but Bugger Max was first over and applying heavy pressure. Union Man, who was tracking cover at that point, kicked off cover late and kicked home in :30 to win by a pair of lengths over odds-on favourite Bugger Max in 2:02.4. City Of The Year was third.
The five wins for Trites gives him 61 on the season and 2,320 in his career. He’s racked up more than $3.6 million in earnings to date.
As for Rennison, the four-win performance pushed his yearly win total to 45 while his seasonal earnings jumped over $53,000. To date, he’s sent out 497 winners while banking in excess of $550,000.
