Political Foe, winner of the $100,000 final at Harrington last month, and Perfect Vangogh won their respective $20,000 DSBF divisions Tuesday at Dover Downs.

Eddie Dennis steered Political Foe, a son of Political Briefing-Paris Filly, to his third win of the season notching thanks to a 1:59.2 score in the first division. Political Cash (Allan Davis) finished second with Mystery Command (Art Stafford, Jr.) third.

Owned by Stephanie and Brian Cassel of Smiths Falls, Ontario, Political Foe has now earned $77,625 to date.

Tony Morgan rang-up the second of his three winners, guiding Perfect Vangogh home in 2:01 for Ed Kimmel, Donald and David Wiest. It was the first lifetime win for the JM Vangogh-Eye Perfect gelding. Circle M RJ (George Dennis) was runner-up. Lucky Dynasty (Vic Kirby) took show honours.

All four DSBF freshman divisions for colt and filly pacers and trotters move into the final $20,000 prelim divisions next week. The top eight point-getters will race in the four $100,000 finals.

For the last four decades on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11, members of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, led by former Dover Downs’ horseman, Moses Asia, now 85, and his fellow winners of the prestigious Purple Heart for their bravery in battle, presented an engraved blanket to a race winner, Stirling Breeze, trained by Kerry King and driven by Jason Thompson.

This year, the Military Order of the Purple Heart honoured one of their own, the late Charles Williams, who passed away in September. Mr. Williams served with 83rd Infantry division in the European Theatre in World War II, and was twice wounded and awarded two Purple Hearts and Oak Leaf Cluster, the Bronze Star and V Devise and Combat Badge for his military service.

In Delaware, Mr. Williams is well-remember as teacher, coach, principal and superintendent of the Smyrna School District, and as a Fulbright Scholar. In 1993, the Smyrna (Del.) football field was named for him.
