The harness racing 2024 season has been one with ups and downs for driver Billy Davis Jr., but he has continued to persevere through it all, and on Sunday, Nov. 10, Davis Jr. earned his 4,000th career victory at MGM Northfield Park.
Originally based in British Columbia but now residing in Guelph, Ont., Davis recently returned from injuries sustained in an accident earlier this season.
Davis entered Sunday needing two victories to achieve the milestone and he wasted no time getting the first one, winning the opening race with Smothastenesewisky.
Tye Loy trainee Jillian B Miki gave Davis Jr. his 4,000th career victory as she won in upset fashion against conditioned company.
Davis elected to be conservative with Jillian B Miki getting off the wings in sixth after several leavers tussled for position. Davis rode the coattails of Always Gonna B You (Aaron Merriman) at the half and, as the field moved up the backstretch, Davis moved her to the inside to save ground. Through the stretch, Jillian B Miki was loaded and she exploded late, winning by a half-length in 1:55.1.
Davis began driving in 2007 and has more than $33 million in career earnings.
Live harness racing continues at Northfield Park on Monday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m.
