Indiana Downs will close out its 80-day harness meet this evening with a “Mini Super Night” program offering nearly $200,000 in purses
.
A group of nine mini-series and closing series finals make up the bulk of the 13-race program, slated to begin at 4:55 p.m. The Shelbyville track will also honour leading driver Ricky Macomber, while the battle for leading trainer will be decided between Ron Burke and Trent Stohler.
Three-year-old pacer F Train will look to complete a sweep of The Single G pacing series Tuesday. The Mark Johnathan gelding won each of the $10,000 legs leading up to this evening’s $25,000 final. He will start from the rail for Walter Haynes Jr. Mystical Valentine, twice a runner-up in the series, will line up in post two for trainer Erv Miller. The Dream Work gelding will be driven by Peter Wrenn.
Western Kit and Stohler will attempt to win the $25,000 Peony final from the rail in race six. The Western Hero filly, trained by Joe Putnam, won the $10,000 first leg before pacing second to Sapphire Martini in the last round. Trace Tetrick will guide Sapphire Martini from post seven.
Several trotters have a chance at victory in the $25,000 I-74 final at Indiana Downs. V Keys Starger, winner of the most recent $10,000 leg, will start from the second tier in post 10. Tetrick will drive the Star Challenge mare for Jeff Brewer. Ripkens Red, winner of the first leg and runner-up in the second, will line up in post four with driver Neil Coleman. Bar One and Peter Wrenn have drawn the rail, while the Burke-trained gelding Joe Cat and Macomber will start from post three.
With 125 victories to his credit heading into the final night of racing, Macomber will earn his first leading driver title at Indiana Downs. He enjoys a double-digit lead over second-place Trace Tetrick. Macomber already has a Hoosier Park title to his credit.
Ron Burke enters the final night of racing with a 41-39 advantage over Trent Stohler for leading trainer honors. He will look to earn his first title in the Hoosier State with two entries Tuesday night. Stohler will send out three starters in hopes of claiming his first training title.
