Severus Hanover held command at every pole to take the $8,500 Preferred 3 Trot at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Tuesday, Oct. 8 while Significance swooped off cover later on the card to win the $8,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 3 Pace.

Driver Alfie Carroll launched Severus Hanover to the front while pylon-starter Scene A Magician secured the pocket heading to a :28.3 opening quarter. The eight-year-old Explosive Matter gelding rolled unchallenged through a :58.3 half but faced pressure from 6-5 favourite Vesuvio Bi moving first over towards three-quarters in 1:28. Vesuvio Bi dug into the pacesetter moving into the stretch but hit the finish a neck shy of victory in a 1:57.3 mile. Scene A Magician held third.

Owned by Cheryl Moreau and Shaun Mc Donald, Severus Hanover won his eighth race from 28 starts this season and his 20th from 137 overall, earning $167,711. Richard Moreau trains the $6.70 winner.

Even-money favourite Significance sat third over before driver Colin Kelly kicked the Andrew McCabe trainee three wide to three-quarters and rushed to a two-and-a-quarter length win in 1:55.2.

Woodmere Wyldstyle cleared control past a :27.3 opening quarter but battled Top Royal, who raced sat first over heading to the half. The pair dueled through middle splits of :56.3 and 1:26 before Kelly sent Significance to the center of the track to collar the dueling leaders into the final turn. The three-year-old Mach Three filly overtook the two turning for the finish and widened her lead while Woodmere Wyldstyle gave chase from second. Top Royal held third.

Winning her 11th race from 17 starts, Significance has earned $87,335 for owners Glenview Livestock Ltd. and Cheryl Cherry. She paid $4.00 to win.
