Four $20,000 divisions of the first leg of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings were contested Tuesday at Harrington Raceway.
Two nights into DSBF two-year-old action, first crop sires have enjoyed ample success.
Scott Woogen’s K J Ben ($14.40, Art Stafford, Jr.) was the fastest winner after a 1:54.1 impressive score. The Riggins colt brushed to lead at the opening quarter mile in :28.3, clearing early leader and race favourite Smoking Joey. K J Ben then marched through fractions of :57.1 and 1:26.1 before holding the favourite at bay in the stretch for a measured win. Trained by Duane Wagner, it was the third win of K J Ben’s career.
Perhaps the most contentious division was the fourth when Michael White’s Son Of A Sizzle ($11.80, Allan Davis) recorded a 1:54.2 win from off the pace for trainer Gary Green. The Life Sizzles colt battled first over and cleared leader Byby Landon, before holding off a game late charge from Remember Me VK for his first win of the season in five career starts.
George and Tina Dennis Inc and Ask W Stables’ Roddys Hot Again ($2.80, George Dennis) notched his third straight win in the first division on the program. The Roddys Bags Again gelding never had an anxious moment in his front end win in 1:56.3. Roddys Hot Again is trained by his co-owner and driver George Dennis.
Garnet O’Marrow’s Seboomook Katahdin ($2.10, Allan Davis) was an 11-length winner in his DSBF division. Sent off as the 1-9 favourite, the Riggins gelding never relented once assuming the lead before the quarter mile. Trained by Wayne Givens, he was won 3-of-4 career outings.
Bob Winkelman’s Paradise Lost ($5.60, Victor Kirby) won her third straight race in the overnight feature, the $13,750 Mares Open.
