The 2024 Buckeye Stallion Series wrapped up on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Hollywood Dayton Raceway with eight $101,351 finals. Not only was a track record equaled, but Dan Noble picked up four BSS wins while trainer Christi Noble claimed three of the BSS titles.
Dan Noble’s first victory came aboard Tommy Count in the freshman colt trot division. The son of Long Tom raced from the back of the pack after leaving from the post eight. At 9-1, Tommy Count trailed the field as quarters flashed up in :28.2, :57.2, and 1:26.3. Noble urged the colt three-wide in the last turn and he answered the call, rallying home in a new lifetime mark of 1:56.4.
Vandy Lane (Chris Lems) was second and Sweet Harmony (Ronnie Gillespie) finished third.
The victory marked the second lifetime win for Tommy Count. He has earned $73,298 this season. Gillespie trains for Anthony Miller. Wayne Weaver bred Tommy Count.
In the division for three-year-old filly pacers, Calypso Pearl (pictured above) went wire to wire in 1:50.3. Dan Noble put the daughter of Fear The Dragon on top and never looked back. As the 1-5 favourite, Calypso Pearl set fractions of :27.1, :55.2, and blazed to a three-quarters in 1:22.1. After taking the pocket trip, Fearless Ginger (Austin Hanners) challenged Calypso Pearl at the top of the stretch but was no match. Calypso Pearl won by a nose and lowered her lifetime mark.
Genetic Edge (Chris Page) was third.
Calypso Pearl has won six of 16 this season. Despite not starting as a two-year-old, she has bankrolled $246,852 under Christi Noble’s conditioning. Sandra Burnett owns and bred Calypso Pearl.
Dan Noble guided Tom Swifty to victory in the next division for sophomore colt trotters. Tom Swifty got away fourth but immediately followed cover heading to the :27.3 opening quarter. The Long Tom gelding quickly found himself first-up and did not see the rail as fractions came in :56.1 and 1:24.4. Showing his grit, 6-5 favourite Tom Swifty dug in every step of the way to win in a new lifetime mark of 1:54.4.
Beaueastel (Peter Wrenn) held on for second with When Im Gone As (Tony Hall) third.
The Christi Noble trainee notched his 11th seasonal win and upped his earnings to $219,955. Tom Swifty is owned by breeder Sandra Burnett and Norman Rae Racing. The Noble husband-and-wife duo won the BSS Final for three-year-old colt trotters in 2023 as well, connecting with Senterprise.
In the sophomore colt pace division, Legendary Noble overcame the eighth post position to give Dan Noble his fourth victory of the night. The gelded son of Bit Of A Legend N briefly let the dust settle before rolling to challenge the leader at the :26.3 opening quarter. Once on top, 8-1 Legendary Noble posted fractions of :55.1 and 1:23. before stopping the clock in 1:51.2.
Twenty Five (Page) was second and High On The Hill (Cameron McCown) rounded out the trifecta.
Legendary Noble has hit the board 15 of 19 tries this season. With six victories, he has bankrolled $119,629 for Norman Rae Racing. Christi Noble trains Legendary Noble, who was bred by Carol Jean Noble.
My Hare Legend equaled the divisional track record for freshman filly pacers, stopping the clock in 1:51.4. Eric Goodell placed the daughter of Bit Of A Legend N in the pocket and stayed patient. Fractions were set in :26, :55.3, and 1:23.1. As the 8-5 favourite, My Hare Legend made her move in the final turn and easily gained control of the field. My Hare Legend won by five lengths in a new lifetime mark.
Pink Jammies (Hunter Myers) finished second with Gorgeous Package (Anthony MacDonald) third.
My Hare Legend has won half of her eight lifetime starts. The Logan Ebersole trainee has earned $96,675 for Ronald Rust. Schare Adams bred My Hare Legend.
Travel Nurse and Brett Miller took the freshman filly trot division in 1:56.3. Travel Nurse got away fourth along the rail and stayed put as fractions flashed up in :27.3, :57.4, and 1:27. The Enterprise filly found racing room in the final turn and slipped into the passing lane. Digging in through her last stride, Travel Nurse tripped the wire in a new lifetime mark.
Bye Bye Girl (Page) was second while BBs Kanson Lady (Kayne Kauffman) held on for third.
Trained by Virgil Morgan Jr., three-time winner Travel Nurse has earned $102,134. Joyce McClelland owns and co-bred Travel Nurse alongside Richard McClelland.
The two-year-old colt pace division went to Twin B High Tide in a new lifetime mark of 1:52.1. Guided by Austin Hanners, the son of Downbytheseaside settled in fourth and stayed patient as the opening fraction was posted in :26.4. Heading to the :55.4 half-mile marker, 1-5 Twin B High Tide followed cover. The colt kicked it into gear and flew three-wide on the backside. There was no catching Twin B High Tide as the three-quarters came in 1:23.1. Twin B High Tide won with three lengths to spare.
The Onyx Dragon (Justin Irvine) finished second and Go Jim Dandy (Myers) was third.
Twin B High Tide has won four of eight lifetime starts to earn $115,057. Alicia Hanners trains for Hanners Racing. He was bred by Twinbrook Limited.
Justasiam As won the three-year-old filly trot division in 1:56.1. Hall piloted the daughter of Lionhunter from the rail post position. The filly found herself first-up while marching past the opening quarter in :28.1. As the 1-5 favourite, Justasiam As inched toward the leader while heading to the :58.3 half and 1:27.2 three-quarters pole. Coming out of the final turn, Justasiam As easily pulled away to win by a length.
Tammie Sue (Lems) was second while Lady Almas (Miller) rallied for third.
Justasiam As won the BSS Final last year as a two-year-old. Now as a sophomore, she has hit the board eight times in 13 seasonal starts. She has notched eight wins and $235,970 lifetime under trainer Anette Lorentzon. ACL Stuteri AB owns and bred Justasiam As.
