Team Allard took home top prize in gate-to-wire fashion with R Es Miss Mcardle in Thursday’s $14,340 End Of Season Claiming Final at Hiawatha Horse Park

R Es Miss Mcardle, in rein to driver Simon Allard, shot to immediate command from the pole position and successfully sliced out splits of :27.2, :57.2 and 1:26.2 before rambling home in :29.3 to win by a pair of lengths over One More Hug in 1:56. Taking home the bronze medal in the nine=horse affair was Stephs Melody.
Sent off as the 9-5 favourite, the Rene Allard pupil improved her 2011 record to 10-6-4 from 34 starts while lifting this year’s earnings to $36,013. It was a lifetime best clocking for the career winner of $67,414, who is owned by Jim Kovacs of Dundas, ON.
In the $7,560 End Of Season Consolation for fillies and mares, Sweetest Smile pulled off a 9-1 upset in come-from-behind fashion for driver Kevin Wallis. The four-year-old daughter of Grinfromeartoear-Smicker Snicker was a comfortable winner over Paris Freeluck in 1:57. Twinky took home the show dough.
Owned and trained by Heather Toll of Dungannon, ON, Sweetest Smile now boasts a 2-1-1 record in 18 starts this season. The four-time winner has banked $48,939 to date.
