Now a winner in three of his last four since to move to Woodbine Mohawk Park, Imperative proved dominant once more with an open length romp in the $24,000 conditioned feature on Monday (Oct. 5) with Louis-Philippe Roy in the sulky.
Tabbed as the 1-9 favourite in the field of ten trotters who were non-winners of three or $50,000 lifetime, Imperative left from post seven. Floating away off the wings, Imperative raced without a seat from fifth on the first turn while Dusty Roads (Tyler Borth) raced to the outside of Frenchmoni Hanover (Mark MacDonald) out front through an opening quarter of :27.4. Dusty Roads cleared before releasing Vista Verde (Jody Jamieson) to the top, leaving Imperative first-over and driving before clearing to the lead just beyond the half in :56.1. Following the overland journey to get there, Imperative trotted to three-quarters two lengths clear in 1:24.4.
Flipping the switch at the head of the lane, Imperative quickly opened up by 3-1/2 lengths midway through the lane while Frechmoni Hanover began to rally into second. Running up the score late, Imperative trotted to the wire 4-1/4 lengths clear on the wire in 1:52.4. Frechmoni Hanover was second at 30-1, with Vista Verde holding third at 20-1.
Trained by Meg Crone, the clocking was a new lifetime mark for Imperative who has won four of nine on the year. The Googoo Gaagaa-Century Empress gelding is owned by Bill Donavan of Delray Beach, FL, and has earned $78,523 lifetime.
