Jet Wash Wins An OSS Thriller

Nine of Ontario’s finest three-year-old pacing fillies faced the starting gate in a $40,000 OSS Gold Series elimination at Rideau Carleton Raceway Thursday evening, and the photo finish camera was utilized to declare a winner in a breathtaking, four-horse photo finish.

Memumsnotnice took the field by the opening quarter in a :27-second clip before giving way to Katys Jet shortly past that first panel. Katys Jet led through middle splits of :56 and 1:24 with Hope For Paddy prompting her along from first over. Jet Wash, who hugged the pylons throughout the mile for driver John MacDonald, found clearance in the lane and used a :28-second kicker to prevail by a nose over Katys Jet. Race favourite Apogee Hanover and Memumsnotnice both came up a head short, with Apogee Hanover edging out that foe for the show dough.

Sent off at odds of 11-1, Jet Wash won for the fifth time this season after going unraced as a rookie for trainer Jeff Gillis. The Hillsburgh, ON horseman co-owns the daughter of Jeremes Jet-Shes Beachy with Jonathan Binks, Mac Nichol and Ellen Ott. The homebred improved this year’s record to 5-1-2 from 17 starts while boosting her earnings to $183,909.

Each of the nine fillies that squared off in the elimination will return to Rideau Carleton Raceway next Thursday for the rich final. Here’s how they’ll line up behind the starting gate:
