It was all treats and no tricks for driver Jody Jamieson in Thursday evening’s Harvest Series finals at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Jamieson took the gold in both series finals for Ontario sired two-year-old colts and geldings.
Sportswriter colt Beaumond Hanover completed a series sweep in the $47,800 pacing colts and geldings final with a convincing 3-1/2 length victory, grabbing command in the second-quarter and posting fractions of :57.2 and 1:25.1 before a :28.1 kicker to win in 1:53.2. The strong performance came despite a post-nine starting spot and a stiff headwind in the stretch.
Sundown Kid finished second, while Rockin Roll Beach and Sixfingerfreddie completed the Superfecta.
Owned and trained by Jack Darling, Beaumond Hanover is now four for five with $23,900 earned. The Sportswriter colt made his career debut on September 30 and was a $45,000 Harrisburg Yearling Sale purchase.
Beaumond Hanover paid $2.30 to win.
Sitting behind another heavy-favourite, Jamieson guided Simsalabim to a blowout 7-1/2 lengths score in the $48,400 final for trotting colts and geldings.
A son of Kadabra, Simsalabim got a two-hole trip behind Beyond Ordinary, who set fractions of :29.3, :59.3 and 1:29.3. The 1-5 favourite stormed by at the head of the lane and pulled away for the big victory in 1:59.3.
Beyond Ordinary finished second, while I Got The Looks and LMC Hope completed the top-four.
Trained by Rene Dion, Simsalabim is now three for eight with $65,446 earned for owners Susie Kerwood, Dion and Martin Leveillee. He paid $2.70 to win.
Thursday’s card also kicked off the Harvest Series for three-year-old trotting fillies.
In the first of two divisions it was Northern Royale turning in a popular victory for the tandem of driver Sylvain Filion and trainer Julie Walker.
Sent off as the 2-5 favourite in the six-horse affair, Northern Royale was parked and pressing for the lead at the quarter pole in :28.4. The favourite worked his way to the front and proceeded to chop out middle fractions of :58 and 1:28.2 before using a :29.1 final frame to post the win by 2-1/4 lengths over Thru The Wickets in 1:57.3. Checkmate Titan was third.
The daughter of Royalty For Life-Dover Miss improved her 2019 record to 5-2-0 from 14 attempts for partners Brenda Walker, Barry Klages and Nancy Holmes. The $8,500 payday pushed her lifetime earnings to $51,850.
Tommi Canu Hearme overcame a big, early deficit to win the second division for the team of driver Mike Saftic and trainer Jared Bako.
The daughter of Royalty For Life-Tommi My Girl got away fifth while Miss Congeniality shot to the top and sliced out fractions of :28, :57 and 1:26.1. Saftic had Tommi Canu Hearme on the move going to the three-quarter pole and his filly then used a :31.1 closing quarter into a strong headwind to score by 1-1/4 lengths over race favourite Chica in 1:59.3. Miss Congeniality took home third prize.
Sent off as the 5-2 second choice, Tommi Canu Hearme won for the first time this season for Dustin Jones Stables Inc, Hebert Horses Inc and Sjoblom Racing Stable. The three-time winner has banked $117,734 to date.
