Red Redemption Tops Lexington Day 2

Following a historic opening day of the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale, Muscle Hill colt Red Redemption topped the second session, held on Wednesday (Oct. 2) evening at the Fasig-Tipton Pavilion in Lexington, Ky.

Hip No. 155, Red Redemption, consigned by Preferred Equine Inc. for Jeff Gural's Little E LLC, attracted a $320,000 bid from Åke Svanstedt. The son of Muscle Hill is the eighth foal of Magenta Hall and a half-brother to millionaire and Yonkers Trot winner Dewycolorintheline.

Hip No. 137, Balenciaga, was purchased from Crawford Farms LLC for $270,000 by Paul Kelley. The Chapter Seven colt is the second foal of Iluvmyjimmychoos, a minor stakes winner in Pennsylvania. Kelley also purchased Hip No. 306, Captured, for $250,000 from Kentuckiana Farms. The daughter of Muscle Hill is the sixth foal of Highland Glider.

The top-priced pacer of the session was Hip No. 216, Southwind Xena, half-brother to 2019 Little Brown Jug winner Southwind Ozzi. The daughter of Betting Line and Southwind Solara was consigned by Preferred Equine for Southwind Farms LLC and drew a bid of $230,000 from William Donovan.

Three other yearlings left the ring for at least $200,000, including Beach Chief (Somebeachsomewhere-Chiffon Hanover) for The Boys Are Back In Town Stable, Warrawee Will (Captaintreacherous-Warrawee Quick) for Myron Bell on behalf of Captain's Court, and Fulsome (Betting Line-Triple V Hanover) for Thomas Dillon. In total, 40 yearlings sold for six-figure price tags during the session.

Hip No. 256, Rau Ru, drew the highest price tag among 15 Ontario-sired yearlings to pass through the sales ring. Clark Beelby purchased the son of Bettors Delight and Band Of Angels for $105,000 on behalf of Coyote Wynd Farms. The aforementioned Ontario-sired contingent sold for $957,000, for an average of $63,800.

The 174 yearlings sold during the second session grossed a total of $13,068,000 for an average sale price of $75,013.

A single yearling by Love You — Francais — attracted a $180,000 bid, giving him the highest sire average on the session, Among sires represented by multiple yearlings, 26 offspring of Muscle Hill sold for an average of $95,500 while three offspring of Bettors Delight averaged $91,667.
