James Watt's Sportsline ($6.00) earned the fifth win of his career in decisive fashion, posting a 1:55.2 mile in the first of three $8,500 Autumn Series pacing events on Wednesday night (Oct. 3) at Flamboro Downs.
The two-year-old son of Sportswriter and Angel In Disguise, twice a winner at each Clinton and Hiawatha through the summer, strode strongly to the front from post 4 and controlled fractions of :27.4, :57 and 1:25.3 while increasing his clearance on the rest of the field. Up by six an eighth from home, Sportsline decelerated off the home turn but still prevailed by 4-1/2 lengths in a lifetime best 1:55.2. Jims Great (Doug Brown) rallied late for second over Terem A New One (Colin Kelly).
Regular driver Robert Doyle once again was at the lines behind Sportsline.
In the second division, Dreamfair Charro ($7.60) and Colin Kelly circled stalled cover up the backstretch en route to a two-length win over Stonebridge Guard (Scott Wray) and Time Rolls On (Brett MacDonald). The Bettors Delight-Dreamfair Eternal freshman gelding earned a 1:58.1 lifetime mark in what was his second career win for owner-breeder John Lamers and trainer William Budd.
The third division saw Century Fury ($7.60) and Alfie Carroll turn aside a stout first-over bid from Big Bang Bigolo (Robert Shepherd) before out-sprinting Quan Blue Chip (Jason Ryan) home by three-quarters of a length. The 1:56.3 time was a new lifetime mark for Century Fury, who recorded his second career win. Vic Puddy trains the juvenile son of Sunshine Beach and Up Front Holly for Randy Christopher, Lloyd Stone, John Tobin and 10462217 Canada Inc.
