Congratulations to Janice Graham from Palmerston, Ont., the grand prize winner of the I Love Canadian Harness Racing Fan Club’s Pick 8 Online Handicapping Contest, which was presented in cooperation with the Ontario Sires Stakes (OSS) and featured $1,400 in prize money.
Over 150 Fan Club members took part in the contest that challenged players to select the winners in the eight OSS Grassroots Championships hosted at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday, September 29. Players’ bankrolls were based on a mythical $2 win and $2 place wager on their selections.
Graham topped the charts and finished with a bankroll of $84.30. Her handicapping skills, which included selecting longshots Lariat Seelster and Sports Flix, landed her first place and a prize of $800. Graham, who has an affinity for betting on grey horses, has been a racing fan since she was a kid and enjoys watching the races at Clinton and Hanover, her two local tracks.
Mark Johnston of Ayr, Ont. finished with a bankroll of $77.40, which gave him second spot and a cash prize of $400. Doug Lidstone of Oyster Bed, Prince Edward Island, secured the show position courtesy of the $61.80 in his bankroll.
The second Ontario Sires Stakes Pick 8 contest will feature $1,750 in prize money and will coincide with the Ontario Sires Stakes Super Finals on Saturday, October 13 at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Stay tuned for the contest to open on Thursday, October 11.
