Two-year-old pacing colts and geldings trekked to London for their final Gold Series event of the season looking to rack up some late season points leading up to this year’s OSS Super Final.
Burning Midnight survived a first-over journey to capture his $64,800 division for driver Louis Philippe Roy in 1:55.1.
The gelding left the gate and dropped into an early three-hole while Bo Mach hustled to the lead and chopped out the opening quarter in :27.4. Roy came first-over with Burning Midnight on the way to the half, and in doing so hooked up with Bo Mach at the mid-way point in :57.1.
Bo Mach was still the leader at the three-quarter pole in 1:25.4, but Burning Midnight wasn’t going away. In fact, the first-over attacker kicked home in :29.1 to win by a head over Bo Mach in 1:55.1. Race favourite Jimmy Freight stayed for third despite going inside multiple pylons in the stretch.
Corey Giles trains the son of Mach Three-Respectednbeloved for Brad Gray and partner Denise Guerriero. The victory improved the rookie’s record to 3-0-2 from seven starts, and it lifted his lifetime earnings to $86,483.
St Lads Neptune turned a two-hole trip into a two-length score in his $64,800 division for Team Jamieson.
Trained by Carl Jamieson and driven by Jody Jamieson, the son of Mach Three-Sunbather stalked Levis Day through panels of :28.2, :58 and 1:26.3 before edging off the rail and firing home in :28.4 to win in 1:55.3 over Levis Day and Sharp Action Money.
Sent off as the 2-1 favourite, St Lads Neptune now boasts a 5-0-1 record from seven trips to the track. Carl Jamieson owns the photogenic youngster with Tom Kyron of Toronto, Ont. The freshman bumped his bankroll to $73,710 with the triumph.
Western Passage was a dominant winner in his $65,600 division for driver Doug McNair and trainer Casie Coleman.
McNair got away third with the son of Sportswriter-Ever Western while race favourite Simple Kinda Man sped to the lead and stole an opening quarter in :29.3. McNair tipped his charge to the outside, and in a matter of strides he was battling with Simple Kinda Man to the mid-way point in :58. They continued their war into the backstretch before Western Passage edged away at the three-quarter pole in 1:25.4. He opened up on the competition late and drew clear to win by eight lengths over Declan Seelster in 1:55.4. Hudson Phil was third.
West Wins Stable, John Fielding, McKinlay Fielding and Calhoun Racing Ltd share ownership on the maiden-breaker who improved his rookie resume to 1-3-1 from seven starts. His share of the purse lifted his cash stash to $86,880.
