Amigo Volo Repeats In Mohawk Preferred

Amigo Volo won his second straight race in the $36,000 Preferred Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday evening, Oct. 28, winning by open lengths in a field of six.

Leaving from post five, James MacDonald and Amigo Volo battled Quebec Hanover (Scott Young) out of the gate. Quebec Hanover took the early lead to the quarter in :26.1 before Amigo Volo swept to the top and opened up. He had a 1-3/4-length lead at the :54.4 half and a three-length lead at the three-quarters in 1:23.1. Without letting up, Amigo Volo charged home to score by 4-1/4 lengths in 1:50.4. Safe Conduct (Chris Christoforou) took second and Fashion Frenzie (Louis-Philippe Roy) completed the show ticket.

Pinske Stables and David J. Miller co-own the seven-year-old Father Patrick-Margarita Momma gelding, who won his ninth race of the year in 23 starts and moved his seasonal sum to $262,706. Amigo Volo now has $2,632,252 in the bank and a record of 41-23-15 in 107 starts. He paid $3.10 to win.

Three divisions of the Harvest Series for Ontario-sired two-year-old fillies were contested on the card with two splits for the pacers and one for the trotters. Each division carried a $17,000 purse as the second leg of the series.

The Harvest Series features Ontario-sired two-year-olds that were non-winners of $30,000 in 2024 as of midnight, Sept. 30, 2024. The $30,000 final will be contested on Monday, Nov. 4. 

After finishing second in the opening leg, Stormont Beautiful ($7.70) redeemed in the second leg for freshman filly trotters with a 1:56.1 triumph by 3-3/4 lengths. Bred and owned by Stormont Meadows, the Resolve-Stormont Fried filly was driven to victory by Brett MacDonald. Kevin Benn trains the winner.

In the first split for filly pacers, Outtathisworld Deo ($7.10) made her second start in the series a winning one by a half length in 1:54 with Louis-Philippe Roy on board. Trained by Chantal Mitchell, the daughter of Bettors Delight-Worldly Beauty is owned by breeder Deo Volente Farms LLC. 

Finally, in the second division for pacing fillies, Louis-Philippe Roy doubled up in series tallies with Funny Business ($11.80), scoring by three-quarters of a length in 1:55.2. The daughter of Hes Watching-Lyons Sweet Jen is owned by Busi Racing and trained by Patrick Rouleau.
