The inaugeral edition of the David Rose Memorial Series began on Sunday afternoon during Summerside Raceway's final card of the season.
The series is a $3,500 claiming event for horses and mares, sponsored by Meridian Farms. The series is named in honour of horseman David Rose, who passed away earlier this year after a battle with cancer.
Nf Debutante ($9.50) went wire-to-wire to win the first $1,500 division by one and a quarter length in 1:59.3 for driver Norris Rogers and trainer Dr. Trevin Shive. The victory was his third in a row.
Cam Cool ($3) later romped to a five and a quarter length victory in 1:59.1 for Terry Gallant and Jonah Moase.
The other divisions were won by less than half a length with the following competitors coming out on top: Hueys Boy ($7.80) and Corey MacPherson in 2:01 for trainer Gerald Dunn; Buck Barker ($7) and Brodie MacPhee in 1:59.3 for conditioner Brent Campbell; and Yankee Sun ($4.30) and trainer-driver Kenny Arsenault in 2:01.1.
The second leg of the series is set for November 4 at Charlottetown Driving Park. The $1,500 (added) consolation and $6,000 (added) final will take place on November 11 in Charlottetown.
