Slip The Hundy N won the $20,833 Open Handicap Pace at Saratoga Casino Hotel on Saturday, Oct. 27 when he went coast-to-coast in the evening’s feature.
The Rob Harmon-trained pacer drew the rail and driver Jay Randall was aggressive in the early going to protect the inside position for Slip The Hundy N, who powered out to the lead in a :27.2 first quarter. The seven-year-old New Zealand import marched unopposed through a half in :56.2 before being met with the challenge of pocket-pulling Little Willy (Mitch Cushing), who took his shot at the favoured leader after clicking off three-quarters in 1:24.4. Longshot General Montana N (Brett Beckwith) shook loose late and came powering home in the stretch to result in a second-place finish behind Slip The Hundy N, who stopped the timer in 1:53.3. Little Willy earned the show spot.
Slip The Hundy N’s victory was his 10th in the 2024 campaign from 30 starts. The Lincoln Royal gelding now has three wins in the local Open in his last five starts for owner Mike Casalino Jr. of Freehold, New Jersey.
Slip The Hundy N, who was the 2-5 betting favourite, paid $2.80 to win.
