What happens when a professional photographer comes across a harness racing meet and is granted full access to shoot? A fresh perspective and some spectacular shots.
If you can think of it, Donal Maloney has probably shot it. One of his assignments, for thejournal.ie, is to capture some aspects of life in Ireland that most don’t always get to see.
Recently, Maloney found his way to Portmarnock Raceway in north Dublin, where he mingled with hundreds of people in attendance for a day of racing. Those in attendance tried their best to bring the man behind the lens up to speed with the ins and outs of race day.
Maloney got a crash course in Harness Racing 101, but was also given some rein to frame some masterful shots, a handful of which appear below (photos courtesy Donal Maloney and thejournal.ie).
The curtain will come down on the 2016 Irish harness racing season at Portmarnock this Sunday (Oct. 30) where the grand finale (and feature race of the afternoon) will be a world record attempt for trotters covering two miles on a half-mile track. For more information, click here.
