Dr. Lawrence Soma and Professor Marilyn M. Simpson of the New Bolton Center have announced that the center has received a 'generous donation' in support of it work to find a test for the presence of Myo-inositol-trispyrophosphate, better known as ITPP, in equine
.
According to a report on thehorse.com, the NBC has recently received the generous donation from the Pennsylvania Harness Horsemen Association. The PHHA's donation follows previous donations to the cause which came from the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association, the Pennsylvania Horsemen Benevolent and Protective Association, and the Pennsylvania Thoroughbred Horsemen Association at PARX Racing.
Dr. Soma, VMD, Dipl. ACVA, who also serves as director of the Pennsylvania Equine Pharmacology Laboratory at Penn Vet in Kennett Square, commented on the donations in the report.
"We are very appreciative of these gifts from the PA Horsemen's groups, which have been used to enhance our research program," Dr. Soma was quoted as saying. "This is of benefit to all constituents in the racing industry. We have withdrawn all other proposals requesting funding for this specific drug."
