Bob McClure dominated the Monday evening program at The Raceway at Western Fair District thanks to a five-win performance on the 11-race card.
McClure took the opener with KS Hall (2:03.2) and returned to victory lane in Race 3 with Give It All (1:59.3). He guided Sir Galahad (1:57) to a wire-to-wire triumph in Race 6 before capturing Race 8 with Podge (1:56.4.
He capped off his night – and the card – with a 1:55.1 victory behind Dutch Seelster in the $8,300 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers. McClure came first over with Dutch Seelster, who eventually wore down pacesetter Rock N Roll Legacy. The show dough was earned by Good Friday Three.
Trainer Kris Haskell co-owns the 10-time winner with Tanner Glanville, Kenneth Colquhoun and Ben Rathwell. The victory pushed the pacer’s lifetime earnings over $60,000.
As for McClure, the five-win performance gives him 425 victories for the season. Alfie Carroll, who went winless on Monday’s card, still leads the nation with 454 wins, but McClure is starting to chip away with a little more than two months of racing left on the calendar.
In other Monday evening action in London, Waikiki Hanover went to the front and didn’t look back en route to a narrow score in the $7,500 Preferred 3 for trotters.
Paul MacKenzie pointed his charge to the lead from Post 2, and together they sliced out splits of :28.1, :58.2 and 1:28.2. The gelding trotted home in :31.3 to win by a neck over LMC Marshmellow in 2:00. Third prize went to a rallying Winzel.
Alan Fair trains the six-year-old son of Cantab Hall-Whitesand Samantha for Elizabeth Fair of Ancaster, Ont. It was the eighth win of the year and the 16th to date for the career winner in excess of $110,000.
