Two-year-olds Getmethruthenite and Slow And Easy completed a Kents On Nuke sweep of the first British Columbia Sires Stakes finals on Friday night at Fraser Downs

.

Getmethruthenite emerged from the backfield to record a 1:58.3 triumph in the $52,300 final for two-year-old pacing colts while Slow And Easy front-stepped her way to a 1:59 score in the $40,000 final for two-year-old pacing fillies -- both contested over a 'good' track rated one second off.

Getmethruthenite and driver Jim Marino trailed the eight-horse field early on while Thieving Magpie (Darren Howald) took control of the field from the inside post position. Favourite Hector Protector (Rick White) fired off the gate from Post 7 and attempted to cross down to the pylons, but jumped it off leaving Thieving Magpie in the top spot.

As Thieving Magpie passed the opening quarter in :28-seconds, Red Star Arturo (Tim Brown) hustled to the lead with Serenity Sam (Rod Therres) hot in his heels and clearing at the :58-half mile mark.

Thieving Magpie moved back out for more as they headed to three-quarters in 1:27.1 while Moonlight Spice (Scott Knight) angled three-wide with Getmethruthenite following that move.

Serenity Sam fought off Moonlight Spice down the stretch, but Getmethruthenite came flying home on the far outside to score the mild 6-1 upset by a neck over Serenity Sam. Thieving Magpie finished one and three-quarter lengths behind.

Getmethruthenite paid $15.20 to win. The homebred Kents On Nuke-Winstar Seelster gelding, who was making just his second career start after finishing second to Hector Protector in a maiden race on Oct. 7 at Fraser Downs, is owned by trainer Alan Anderson of Willows, California and the J J J Stables of Aldergrove, B.C.

There was three-horse dash for the lead off the gate in the filly final with the parked out Slow And Easy refusing to lose that battle and driving on for the top spot past the :27.4 opening quarter. The Kevin Anderson-driven filly settled in front of Knight Therapy (Scott Knight) while Cheyenne J (Dave Hudon) took back to third.

Elimination winner Slow And Easy opened up a couple of lengths on the field as she cruised passed the half in :57.2, but was confronted by Cheyenne J down the backstretch and the pair took off in a two-horse breakaway to three-quarters in 1:27.

The leading ladies battled right to the wire, but it was Slow And Easy who prevailed in the win photo for a new lifetime mark of 1:59. The other elimination winner, Austins Martini (Rick White), rallied home from the backfield to show, five and three-quarter lengths behind.

Slow And Easy paid $3.30 to win. She is now a perfect two-for-two in her career. Trainer Debbie McCarthy also co-owns the homebred Kents On Nuke-Kbs Midnight miss with Mark Anderson of Willows, California.
