Frank Chick's dazzling two-year-old filly Caviart Daisy continued an impressive freshman campaign on Sunday, Oct. 19 with a dominant 9-1/4-length win in an $11,268 Virginia Breeders Stakes elimination pace at Shenandoah Downs.

The daughter of Sweet Lou-Caviart Darlin, fresh off a wire-to-wire performance a week ago in the first round of eliminations, was eclipsed by front-stepping Caviart Amore Mio (Tyler Shehan) at the quarter :28.2 before powering forward to command. Driver Tony Morgan, competing in Woodstock for the third time ever, rated Caviart Daisy to middle panels of :57.1 and 1:26.4, and the filly powered home to complete the victory in 1:55. Caviart Amore Mio was second-best, well ahead of show finisher Watch Sparks Fly (Fern Paquet Jr.).

Caviart Daisy is now five-for-10 with $232,328 in earnings. Jamie Sullivan trains the rookie, who won a Kentucky Sire Stakes Final early in the season at Oak Grove. The win price was $2.10.

Caviart Santa Fe ($2.60) took the second $11,268 rookie pacing filly division, wiring the field in 1:59.1. The daughter of Tall Dark Stranger-Caviart Sarah finished second to Caviart Daisy a week ago but dodged her on Sunday. Driver Eric Davis led the Alex Goldin trainee to the front-end victory by 2-3/4 lengths for owner Julie Collins. Luna Speaks (Chuck Perry) was second, eight lengths clear of Watchoutforda Irs (Paquet) in third.

Ramona Gillespie's Caviart Trenton ($3) had the faster time from a pair of $11,268 two-year-old colt-and-gelding pace eliminations, going coast-to-coast in 1:56.2. The Captain Crunch-Caviart Tempest gelding had a similarly dominant effort last week in a first-round triumph. Reinsman Tim Deaton was in the sulky for both wins and oversaw Sunday's 5-3/4-length score for trainer Janet Davis. Caviart Cadet (Anibal Borjas) was second, and Michelles Kyle (Jared Moyer) was third.

Hungry Joe ($7.80) rebounded from a third-place finish in round one to reach the winner's circle on Sunday with a two-length victory in 1:57.3. Borjas was in the bike behind the Stay Hungry-Jesses Lady colt, who picked up his first lifetime win for trainer Tony Alagna and owners Alagna Racing LLC, Joe Giaramita, and Joe Caputo. Caviart Sheridan (Morgan), a first-round victor, was the runner-up while Caviart Tucker (Billy Carter) finished third.

Winning colt trotters from Saturday's eliminations were Caviart War Room (2:02.3) and Kalispel (2:01.2). The filly elim winners were Cherrys Girl (2:02) and Wolfpack One (2:01.1).

The $320,000 USD Virginia Breeders Championships card is set for Saturday, Oct. 25, when pacing and trotting finals for both sexes will be contested.
