Congratulations to Adam Norwood of Saint John, N.B., the grand prize winner of the I Love Canadian Harness Racing Fan Club’s Pick 8 Online Handicapping Contest, which was presented in cooperation with the Ontario Sires Stakes (OSS) and featured $1,750 in prize money!
Over 300 Fan Club members took part in the contest that challenged players to select the winners in the eight OSS Super Final events hosted at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday, October 13. Players’ bankrolls were based on a mythical $2 win and $2 place wager on their selections.
Norwood topped the charts, finishing with a bankroll of $113.20. His handicapping skills, which included selecting longshots Summer Charm and Keystone Concrete, landed him first place and the grand prize of $1,000. Adam has been attending the races since he was young, following his father and Uncle to the racetrack to watch their horse’s race.
“My father Gary and Uncle Kenneth Norwood used to own horses and I have been going to Exhibition Park Raceway my whole life. I am huge harness racing fan and follow harness racing all year long,” Adam explained. “My favourite track to attend is Red Shores at Charlottetown Driving Park, I have never missed a Gold Cup and Saucer race.”
Adam lives out east, so he opted to watch the Super Finals from the comfort of his home with his daughter Savannah who is also a big racing fan!
Runner-up was Marlene Bezaire of London, Ont., who finished with a bankroll of $105.50, landing her $500 in prize money. Marlene enjoys watching the races at her hometown track -- The Raceway, and her favourite driver is Garrett Rooney.
Wade Hamilton of New York, N.Y., secured the show position courtesy of the $94.60 in his bankroll and wins $250. Wade has been a fan of harness racing for 20 years, his favourite track to attend is Woodbine Mohawk Park and his favourite driver is Yannick Gingras.
