Sophomore pacing filly Im Tu Die For was a repeat winner in the Mary Murphy B.C. Breeders Stakes on a foggy Friday night at Fraser Downs while first-time stakes winner Farside Baby captured the other $7,500 third leg division.
Trained and driven by Glenn White, 6-5 favourite Im Tu Die For left from the outside post six and took Friday's opener by one and a half lengths over Allittleforplace (Serge Masse) and first leg winner Shadow Time (Bill Davis). The mile was not rated due to a teletimer malfunction.
The Allamerican Cobalt filly also won her round two division back on Aug. 31 and finished a close second in the first leg on Aug. 24 for owner Ron Julien of Langley, B.C.
Farside Baby completed a sweep of the third leg for sire Allamerican Cobalt. With Jim Marino in the sulky, she reeled in 1-2 favourite Yanotherhos (Brad Watt) from the two-hole and prevailed by a nose in 1:56 flat as the 9-2 third choice. Hurts So Bad (Bill Davis), a winner in both opening legs, trailed 10 lengths behind in third.
Randy Rutledge trains, owns and bred Farside Baby with fellow Aldergrove, B.C. resident Jennifer Dodsworth. She earned a second and fourth-place finish in the first two legs.
The three-year-old pacing fillies will face off again in the fourth round of the Mary Murphy B.C. Breeders Stakes on Sunday, Nov. 3 at Fraser Downs and return for their rich final on Monday, Nov. 11.
This week's $9,500 Open Pace went to Mr Saratoga and trainer/driver Quentin Schneider in 1:53.2. Owned by Calgary's Glenn Pinel and Alan Christensen, the nine-year-old gelding prevailed by three-quarters of a length over Rock Allstar (Jim Marino) to earn his 34th career win.
