Mikes Tony inherited the lead early and held command all the way to win the $8,500 Autumn Series second leg for two- and three-year-old trotting fillies on Saturday, Oct. 18 at Flamboro Downs.
First-leg winner Im A Diva (Mike Horner) had the quickest turn of foot as the wings folded, but she broke stride entering the first turn, leaving Mikes Tony (Samuel Fillion) a clear leader. She headed a strung-out group through :30.1, 1:00.4, and 1:30.1 panels without challenge, but Sneaking Out (Dave Boughton) crept up the inside with a burst of speed coming off the final turn to pressure the pacesetter late. Mikes Tony required little work from Fillion to hold her off, reaching the line a half-length winner in 2:00.4. Kinnder Trixie (Jason Ryan) was five more lengths behind in third.
Mikes Tony recorded her second win in 17 career starts and she has now earned $14,350 since making her debut earlier this year. The Bill Megens-trained three-year-old daughter of Alarm Detector-Musclemaya is owned by Bob Megens of Guelph, Ont.
The Autumn Series is for Ontario-sired two- and three-year-olds that were non-winners of $10,000 lifetime as of Sept. 30. The series for filly trotters, labelled as Event A, will conclude with its final on Oct. 25.
