On Leamington Raceway's penultimate program of 2015, assistant race secretary Jan Adams carded a $7,000 Invitational pace designed to reward horses that had supported, raced and won during the current meet.
As the Dave Prieur gate unfolded Stoney Durkin (Nick Steward) left quickest to take the lead, but just before the :27.3 quarter out came Oldfriendskentucky (Tyler Borth) from the garden spot to let it be known that this race was his to lose. With a half in :56.3, the son of Whosurboy-Patties fame paced home in a minute flat to win by a length and a quarter in 1:56.3 over Stoney Durkin and Teranadawn (Scott Wray). Owned by Stephen and Laura Roberts of Melbourne, this was the fourth win in five Leamington starts for Oldfriendskentucky, and the time of this mile is the best for an older pacing gelding over the half-miler.
The driving star of the day was Chris Johnston, winning three with Jeannes Faith ($32.40), Leafs And Wings ($3.00) and On Cloud Nine ($13.40). Nick Steward also won three races bringing his driver-leading total to 48 wins in 13 cards of racing.
On Sunday, the Lakeshore Horse Racing Association gave away a new Ford Focus from Leamington's Lally Southpoint Ford. The winners were Paul and Lynn Rafuse of Amherstburg.
Next week wraps up the 2015 harness racing season at Leamington, with first race post time at 1:30 p.m.
