Freshmen and sophomore pacers did battle at St. John’s Raceway on Sunday afternoon with a special guest as the Newfoundland half-miler hosted a pair of

$1,200 Atlantic Sire Stakes fair divisions.

Ken Warkentin from the Meadowlands was on hand to call the races as Coral Sea was much the best in the division for two and three-year-olds. The two-year-old son of SS Sand Dollar-Secret Diedentity was treated to a pocket trip behind Tobins Scholar, who threw down fractions of :31, 1:02.4 and 1:35.3 before brushing to the top and drawing away to win by six lengths in 2:07.4 over a track rated “good”. Tobins Scholar was second best despite making a late break, and Farmers Gal was third.

Walter Deering, Jr. guided the colt to his fourth win of the season in eight trips postward. Walter Deering of Shearstown, NL owns and trains the colt, who was purchased for $2,000 at last year’s Atlantic Classic Yearling Sale.

Our Ryall Flush notched his second consecutive victory thanks to a front-stepping score in the second division which was a co-ed tilt for three-year-olds.

Shane Forward hustled the daughter of Toofunnyforwords-Ma Parker through fractions of :31.3, 1:02.3 and 1:33.2 before cruising home in :31.4 en route to the 9-1/2 length score over P H Golden Girl in 2:05.1. Quickcam, who made a late break, had to settle for third prize.

Carl Ryall of Goulds, NL owns and trains the youngster, who now boasts a 9-4-1 record from her 20 trips to the track this season. The 11-time winner pushed her earnings over $7,000.
