Horseman Gilles Barrieau, winner of Fredericton Raceway's driving title early this month, maintained high productivity levels Saturday afternoon at Saint John, New Brunswick’s Exhibition Park Raceway as he reined five winners on the 11-race program.

Barrieau scored his first victory in the second race aboard the Averil Hunter-trained The Rabbit (2:04.1) and then returned to the winner’s circle after Connely CC (2:01.3) prevailed in his seventh race assignment for trainer Jean Lavoi.

The hot-handed reinsman then closed out the card with a natural hat trick. Lucky Dealer (2:03) prevailed in the eighth race, followed by Slim N Sleek (1:59.2) – both for Rosai Barrieau - and then Gilles’ own pupil Magnetic Benka (2:01).

With the five-bagger, the local resident now sports 117 driving wins on his 2009 record with nearly $260,000 earned. Barrieau has reined a total of 3,173 winners lifetime and has banked over $5.6 million in purse earnings.
