Richard Moreau trainee and freshman Super Final winner Fashion Frenzie sat off the frenzy for the front and progressed with a methodical uncovered grind to a 1:53.4 score in the $225,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final for three-year-old trotting colts and geldings on Saturday (Oct. 16) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Action developed early as a trio ripped three wide for the lead into the first turn with Lexus Kody emerging on top through a :26.4 first quarter. Logan Park raced farthest off the pegs but continued forward and inched by Lexus Kody to lead the field by a :55.2 half while Publicity Seeker, the leader to the first turn, was shuffled to third.

Fashion Frenzie stalked the skirmish from fourth and began his move for the front heading to the final turn. Driver Louis-Philippe Roy made steady gains with the Archangel gelding as Logan Park snagged a breather to three-quarters in 1:24.4. Off the final turn, Logan Park clung to a diminishing lead as he drifted off the pegs and came under attack from both Fashion Frenzie and Lexus Kody, who came calling to his inside. Fashion Frenzie drew to equal terms with Logan Park into the eighth pole and the game tempo-setter eventually relinquished the lead to the persistent even-money favourite as he then strode clear to victory. Lexus Kody finished third and Publicity Seeker took fourth.

“Going into the first turn with three of them fighting for position there, I was pretty happy sitting fourth. The half in [:]55 was hard on them, definitely. Logan Park and Trevor [Henry’s] horse [Lexus Kody] still raced pretty good – they didn’t give it [up] easily in the lane; I was expecting them to be a little more tired in the stretch. But my horse is very stylish – he raced against older horses first up and still raced great, so I wasn’t scared to use that kind of trip with him.”

In defending his crown, Fashion Frenzie collected his sixth victory from 12 starts this season and his 11th from 19 overall, pushing his earnings to $729,685. He competes for owners Ecurie Francis Richard Inc., Mario Bourgea, Pierre Guillemette and Sylvain Richard, and paid $4 to win.
