According to an article on NJ.com, New Jersey horsemen filed a class-action lawsuit Friday in Newark against E-ZPass and the Delaware River Port Authority for being overcharged by the E-ZPass system when trucking
their horses to the Philadelphia area.
The article states that trucks under 7,000 pounds that have two-axle trailers are supposed to be charged $10 but many horsemen reported being charged $24 per trip. Regular vehicles are charged $4 to cross the span.
"There are countless other parties, including, but not limited to other horse owners who travel across the Commodore Barry Bridge with horse trailers in tow, who are then overcharged the sum of $14 per trip by the E-ZPass machines," Jeffrey R. Pocaro of Fanwood, a lawyer who specializes in horse racing law, said in the suit.
"There could be several hundred, because many horsemen from New Jersey race at Chester," he said in an interview.
