Hurts So Bad Wins BCSS Before Cancellation

With some TLC from maintenance crews, the track held up just long enough for two-year-old pacing filly Hurts So Bad to score her first career win in the $75,000 British Columbia Sires Stakes Final before the remaining races on the Friday night card were cancelled due to unsafe conditions caused by a persistent Mother Nature.

Sent postward over a sloppy track in the third race, driver J.F. Gagne worked out the winning trip for 3-2 favourite Hurts So Bad, who clocked the mile in 2:02.

With the inside post advantage, Hurts So Bad established the early lead with Not Listed (Jim Marino) leaving beside her along with post six starter Justnothatintoyou (Kevin Anderson), who broke stride while trying to clear. Not Listed made the lead over Hurts So Bad during a :28.3 opening quarter while Justnothatintoyou recovered from her miscue and settled into third.

As the fillies made their way in front of the grandstand for the first time, Gagne sent Hurts So Bad to command before Justnothatintoyou launched her attack and edged out in front as they passed the half in 1:01.

Justnothatintoyou cleared down the backstretch and led the way to the third quarter station in 1:30. But Gagne pulled Hurts So Bad from the pocket as they entered the stretch and the brown filly swept by for the two and a quarter length victory. Fast Lane Ferrari (Kayla Mills) and Im Tu Die For (Glenn White) came on for second and third over Justnothatintoyou while Not Listed rounded out the top five finishers.

Ty O'Neill trains the homebred Power Of Art-Scruffian filly for the J J J Stables of Aldergrove, B.C. The win was her first in five starts and followed up three second-place efforts in opening legs of the Betty Millbanks Breeders Stake and a conditioning race. She now boasts a bankroll totalling $42,575.

Races four through 11 were cancelled. Live racing is scheduled to return to Fraser Downs on Saturday with the freshman colts kicking off the card at 7:15 p.m. in their $75,000 BCSS Final.
