George Brennan, whose miles (or miles-and-one-sixteenth) frequently conclude in Yonkers Raceway's winner's circle, found that venue eight times during Thursday night's
windy, rainy, foggy 13-race program.
The Raceway's leading driver wasted no time, winning the first four races. First up was Braeside Derby N ($4.60), who took the $10,000, pacing opener in 2:02.4 for the mile-and-one-sixteenth. Brennan then completed the $17.60 early daily double with Waterloo Willie ($6.70) by open lengths in the $14,000, second-trot (added-distance 2:05).
The $10,000, third-race pace saw Brennan and invader Native Sweets ($7.30) prevail in the passing lane in an added-distance 2:04, while the
class-plunging Saymynamesaymyname ($3) won the $11,000, fourth-race pace (added-distance 2:03), completing an $87 Pick 3.
Brennan's personal parade ended with a breaker in the fifth-race trot, before his picture taken again with Carnivalocity ($4.20) in the $14,000, sixth-race pace. The one survived a long, first-up duel to prevail in 2:02.4 for the requisite distance.
After a weak, uncovered effort in the seventh-race trot, Brennan was hounded into defeat on the lead as the 6-5 choice in the eighth.
He then won the next three races with front-end favorites. taking the $18,000, ninth-race trot with Commander K ($4) in an added-distance 2:05.4, the $16,000, 10th-race pace with Tivoli Hanover ($2.80) in an added-distance 2:01.4 and the $18,000, 11th-race pace with Berry Berry Fast ($2.80) in 2:02 for the distance du jour.
Brennan wound up third to a runaway longshot in the 12th-race trot before fading first-over in the pacing finale.
Brennan, who seemingly won his 6,000th career race about a week-and-a-half ago, is now 13 wins away from 7,000.
