“It’s the Breeders Crown,” said Bulletproof Stable owner Jeffrey Brooks. “It’s a night like no other; we have to be there.” The 'we' in question are just two of the
stable’s brilliant homebred pacing fillies, Yellow Diamond and Shacked Up.
Any hesitation in writing a cheque for the $62,500 supplemental fee for each filly was alleviated by the pair’s lifetime earnings of $1.4 million. The two supplements will boost the purse of the Breeders Crown three-year-old filly pace to U.S. $710,000. It is the only Breeders Crown race in which supplements were declared. Entries for eligible Breeders Crown horses are due by 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 13.
The U.S. $5 million Breeders Crown finals will be contested on Saturday, October 24 at Woodbine Racetrack with a 7:30 p.m. post time.
Both fillies are coming off important victories. Shacked Up won the Ontario Sire Stakes Gold Final at Woodbine on Friday, October 9, her 11th win in 21 career starts. Stablemate Yellow Diamond won her division of the Glen Garnsey Memorial at the Red Mile, racking up her 10th win in 17 starts. Both fillies are homebred daughters of 2004 Breeders Crown champion Western Terror, who won his event at Woodbine.
“We are so fortunate,” said trainer Tracy Brainard.” It would be unbelievable to have the best pacing filly in your barn one year, let alone four of the top money-earners for the division. I give all the credit to Bulletproof, because most of these horses are homebreds and we’ve been very lucky to get them. It has been an incredible year.”
Bulletproof Enterprises has a few additional weapons in its arsenal that it did not supplement. Jugette winner Showherthemoney and Not Enough also were not eligible to the Crown. Not Enough is being rested for some races near the end of the year and Showherthemoney “has raced very hard over the last few months” said Brainard, and will be sent to Yonkers for the Lady Maud at the end of October. Brainard also intends to enter eligible pacing filly Kabbalah Karen B in this division.
This Crown division has been won four times by supplements, including 2001 Horse of the Year Bunny Lake and subsequent divisional champions Popcorn Penny, Odies Fame and Burning Point.
There are no supplemental provisions for two-year-old races.
Regular entries for eligible trotters and pacers are due by 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Mohawk race office. The finalists for the eight Breeders Crown Finals will be determined through elimination races Friday and Saturday night at Woodbine. Eliminations for all two-year-olds will be raced on Friday [post time 7:30 p.m.] and eliminations for all three-year-olds will be Saturday [delayed post time of 8:00 p.m.]. Elimination winners may pick their post position for the finals.
