Heart And Soul delivered as the top-betting choice in the $2,800 featured pace at Summerside Raceway on Monday (Oct. 11).
Driver Walter Cheverie charged Heart And Soul to the lead and never looked back, leading every step to a 1:56 victory over Hunger Pangs and Winter Blast. George Riley trains the winner for owner Riley Farms of Summerside.
There was no stopping Jason Hughes’ ascent to the top of the driver’s standings. Nicknamed “The Blue Knight”, Hughes now sits atop of the driving standings with 45 wins, following a grand slam on Monday at the Prince County Oval, with Marc Campbell in second at 42 wins and Corey MacPherson now third at 39 after four wins on the day Monday.
Hughes had a double from the Jennifer Doyle stable with Chocolate Swirl (1:55.4) and Elm Grove Mistress (1:58.1). Hughes also won with Ubettimagoodone (1:58.4) for trainer Jeff Lilley and Warrawee Ulla (1:59.2) from his own stable.
Corey MacPherson won four on the day with JK Cowboy (2:00) for Greg MacInnis, Badlands Giovanna (2:00.1) from trainer Brady Sweet, Starshipzodiac (2:01.4) as part of an Earl Watts training double and Adventure Luck (1:59.1) for trainer Robert Williams.
Live racing continues Thursday night (Oct. 14) at 6 p.m. (ADT) and Saturday afternoon (Oct. 16) at 12:30 p.m. at Red Shores Charlottetown and Monday (Oct. 18) at 6:30 p.m. in Summerside.
