The Catskill Amateur Driving Club will host presidents and officers from other amateur clubs throughout the country and have them compete in two races on Wednesday afternoon, October 12 at Monticello Raceway. They are carded as races two and four on the 13-race program that day.
Gerry Fielding, the president of the Catskill Club, will host eight other amateurs who’ll be coming in from Chicago, Florida, Michigan and New York.
Slated to drive on Wednesday are George Bonomo, president of the Chicago Club; Steve Oldford, vice-president of the Billings Series; Kelly Walker, president of the Michigan Club; Alan Schwartz, president of the Yonkers Club; Joe Faraldo, president of the North American Amateur Drivers Association, Dein Spriggs, two-time National Amateur Driver of the Year and officer in the Florida Club; George Casale, an officer in the Yonkers Club and Ken Heins, VP of the Catskill Club.
Spriggs has drawn the favourite, Keystone Endurance, in the first division, race two while Kelly Walker will handle the favourite in the second split, race four.
The action on the racetrack promises to be fierce among the competitors but when the day is over the group will head to a local restaurant and break bread and the winners will tell their stories while the losers try to grin and bear it.
But a good time will be had by everyone, after all, amateur harness racing is a great motive for human relations.
