John MacDonald’s Doubleshotascotch ($8.90) narrowly collared pacesetter Danny William for a 2:00.1 victory in Sunday afternoon’s (October 1) featured $1,500 winners-over pace at Inverness Raceway.

The 11-year-old Dragon Again gelding settled in midfield as Danny William (Alexander MacNeil) sprinted out to take early command, controlling a :28.3 first quarter before having to withstand mild but sustained pressure from Bonnys Mac (Ross MacInnis) through middle splits of :58.1 and 1:29.1. Doubleshotascotch worked closer to the intensifying pressure up the far side before striking the front at head-stretch and defeating a game Danny William by a hard-fought neck. Bonnys Mac stayed on respectably to protect third.

Ryan Campbell drove Doubleshotascotch for MacDonald, who handles the training duties of the 39-time winner.
