After settling for the runner-up award in each of his last three starts, Slave Dream got all the marbles in Thursday’s $50,000 Open Trot at Mohawk Racetrack
.
He played second fiddle to Ziegler Hanover in the Frank Ryan Memorial at Rideau Carleton Raceway on September 6 followed by back-to-back second-place finishes to San Pail in Mohawk’s Open ranks before making his way to victory lane for Quebec partners Franco Cianci and Isidoro Russo.
Sylvain Filion got away third with Slave Dream in the Thursday evening tilt, allowing Ziegler Hanover to chop out an opening fraction of :27.3 before putting pressure on that rival. The pressure came in the second quarter when Filion wheeled the four-year-old son of Pearsall Hanover-Hungarie F to the outside.
The gelding brushed to the top without a tussle, and he proceeded to get things his own way through middle splits of :56.4 and 1:26 before coming under attack. Ziegler Hanover popped the pocket in the lane and Define The World launched a three-wide attack after enjoying a ground-saving trip for the first three-quarters of the mile. Both of their off-the-pace bids fell short against Slave Dream, who threw in a :27.2 closing panel to seal the deal by a little more than a length in a sharp clocking of 1:53.2. Ziegler Hanover edged out Define The World for the place position.
Frank O’Reilly conditions Slave Dream, who now boasts a 9-5-5 record in 23 efforts this season. The 18-time winner has stashed away more than $220,000 this year and more than $339,000 to date.
