It has been reported that officials with Suffolk Downs in Massachusetts have said in writing that they will commit to continue live horse racing at the Boston-area raceway for at least 15 years if Mohegan Sun is allowed to construct a casino on the track’s property.
The Boston Globe has obtained a Jan. 6 letter in which William J. Mulrow, the track’s chairman, stated that the raceway will “give racing its best chance to succeed in the Commonwealth” if Mohegan Sun is allowed to build a casino on the property.
“The revenue that we receive as a result of our lease with Mohegan Sun Massachusetts will allow us, in turn, to make the substantial investment required to fulfill our longstanding commitment and give racing its best chance to succeed in the Commonwealth,” Mulrow wrote.
