Lilsharkshooter lived up to his name on Friday night at Northlands Park. The son of Cams Card Shark stalked his Open Pace rivals from the back of the field before making a late-stretch dash for the cash in rein to trainer/driver Jeff Stone.
Track record holder Tajma Hall (Jean Francois Gagne) showed early speed, but it was favourite Trust The Artist (Kelly Hoerdt) who put up the opening panels of :28.3 and :58.1. Neal Diamonique (Keith Clark) brushed up from fourth at three-quarters in 1:26.1 and the two battled stride for stride down the stretch. While Neal Diamonique began to inch ahead, Lilsharkshooter deployed a :27.1 final frame to sweep the field winning the $15,000 event by a neck in 1:54.3. Tyber Hall (Gerry Hudon) came on for third.
The five-year-old bay, who went off as the 22-1 longshot, scored his 12th lifetime win and pushed his earnings over the $200,000 mark for owners Jerry and Sharon Renkers of Surrey, B.C.
