According to a report, a helicopter had to be utilized this past Saturday (January 2) in order to free a standardbred
after it fell down a large hole.
An article by the Wanganui Chronicle in New Zealand states that the gelding's owner, Heather Gilbert, had lent her horse to her friend, Sandy Steven, for a ride on a Pukeokahu farm.
The article states that the horse ended up jumping the side of an overgrown track and slid into a deep hole.
The horse, which only suffered swollen legs and a few scratches, was eventually airlifted out via helicopter.
"His composure was amazing, even when the helicopter landed beside him when he had been lifted out. He just sat there," Gilbert was quoted as saying.

In 1967 I had the most wonderful year as an exchange student on a farm near a little town called Sequim on the Olympic Peninsula, Wash. State. We love this area and have visited several times, hence our reason for choosing this name, as he is such an impressive black horse who is now 15 yrs. old. We also have a pacer 18 yrs. old who still holds a NZ record! Both horses came straight off the track from Auckland and they think it is like paradise here!
