The hype surrounding trotting sensation Bold Eagle was justified after the five-year-old trotter unleashed a record performance in the 95th edition of the Prix d'Amerique on Sunday at Hippodrome Paris-Vincennes.
With three-time Prix d'Amerique winning driver Franck Nivard at the controls, Bold Eagle methodically stalked Timoko (Björn Goop) from a three-wide perch in the early going. Nivard cleared Bold Eagle to the lead around the half-way mark of the 2,700 metre event and then felt pressure from 2015 PdA champ Up And Quick (Jean Michel Bazire). Bold Eagle repelled that bid and powered away in the stretch hold off pocket sitting Timoko and a late rally from Oasis Bi (Pierre Vercruysse) for the winner's share of the €1,000,000 purse.
The kilometre rate of 1:11.4 for the 2,700 metre race broke the track's existing standard for that distance.
Bold Eagle (Ready Cash - Reethi Rah Jet - Love You) is trained by Sebastian Guarato and owned by Ecurie Pierre Pilarski. He's just the 15th five-year-old to win the Prix d'Amerique and the first since Offshore Dream in 2007. His career record now stands at 21 wins from 24 starts.

I am not sure he'll be this
I am not sure he'll be this good on the short distance of a mile. I have however seen him obliterate a track record on a very wet track over 2100 meters (±1.3 miles). Maybe in a year or two, when he is a bit older. He can maybe go to the Yonkers International Trot, like Timoko and others last year, that distance of 2011 meters would suit him I think.
Can't wait to see him race in the Prix de France in two weeks!
