Preferred Repeat For 'Herbie'

Sizzlen Hot Herbie wrapped up his 2021 season a winner, and he kicked off 2022 with another triumph thanks to a gutsy score in Monday’s $13,000 Preferred 2 & 3 Handicap for trotters at The Raceway at Western Fair District.

In rein to trainer/driver/owner Natasha Day, Sizzlen Hot Herbie dropped into an early four-hole while race favourite Power And Grace shot to the top and supplied fractions of :29.2, 1:00.3 and 1:29.3.

Day came first-over with Sizzlen Hot Herbie on the way to the half, and they were at the flank of the leader heading into the final quarter of the contest. Sizzlen Hot Herbie’s :29.3 closing quarter was enough to earn him the win by a half-length margin over Power And Grace in 1:59.1. Los Ballykeelamigo took home the show dough.

The eight-year-old son of Here Comes Herbie-Six Red, who went 4-for-26 last year, is a 20-time winner with earnings in excess of close to $180,000.
