The first three races on Flamboro Downs’ Saturday evening (January 28) program produced double-digit win prices – two of which rang in at $45 and change.
After Jethro produced an $11.80 win mutuel in Race 1, the Lyle MacArthur-reined and trained Perfect Lover was sent away at 21-1 for Race 2. Although the four-year-old Kadabra gelding was sent away at the longest odds in the six-horse dash, he raced like the chalk.
The real chalk in Race 2, Golden Man, who was sent away at 15 cents on the dollar, made a break off the gate, and MacArthur and Perfect Lover took full advantage. MacArthur and his mount crossed over from Post 5, sliced all the fractions, and hung on for a one and a quarter-length victory in 2:01.1. The track was rated as ‘good’ and one second slow.
Perfect Lover ($45.30) is owned by Ontario residents Linda Wellwood, Tammy Aspden and Murray Neilson.
It appeared as though Masster Blue and driver Isaac Waxman were inspired by Perfect Lover’s effort one dash earlier, as they took to the track and sent another jolt through the tote board after Race 3.
Masster Blue, a three-year-old Muscle Mass gelding, didn’t see the race favourite make a break, but he decided to cross over from Post 4, regardless. He cut all the fractions and hung on in the stretch for a three-quarters of one length victory in 2:03.4.
Carmen Mauro trains Masster Blue ($45.80) for Brenda Waxman of Dundas, Ontario.
