Hearts N Flowers took the lead early on the way to a 1:52.1 in the $20,000 Mares Open Handicap Tuesday, Jan. 26 at Dover Downs.
Bay Pond Racing’s Hearts N Flowers has been knocking in recent weeks since consecutive wins early in the meet in the track’s top distaff event. Trained by Wayne Givens, seven-year-old Hearts And Flowers (Artiscape-Hasty Dewer) recorded her 21st career victory mounting her earnings to $286,596. It was the third win of the day for Allan Davis, who holds a comfortable lead in second-place in the standings. Springforth (George Dennis) showed her strong closing-kick by finishing second in front of Scandalicious (Tim Tetrick).
George Dennis made his second trip to the winner’s circle steering Playncardswitroddy to a 1:54.3 victory in the $15,000 Four- & Five-Year-Old Mares pace reduced to only six starters with the scratching of Louvniecestopieces and Gititgotitgone. The Roddys Bags Again-Fancy Cards mare, owned by George and Tina Dennis and Ask W Atables, bested Lady Beth (Wolfenden) and Quik To Fool You (Kirby), second and third respectively.
Caviart Scarlett won her third in-a-row scoring wire-to-wire in a $13,500 Four- & Five-Year-Old Mares pace for Tim Tetrick. A four-year-old by Sportswriter-Caviart Sydney took an early lead and never was challenged racking up the victory with Michelle Rocks (Wolfenden) second and Party Rockin (Callahan) third.
Tetrick posted the second of three winning drives -- two for Jim King trainees -- by romping to a 1:52 triumph in a $12,000 Mares pace with No Respect. The John McGill owned daughter of Sportsmaster-Justalittlerespect seven-year-old collected her 27th victory and $396,175 in purses. B Stern (Vic Kirby) closed with a rush to finish second edging Matinee Dragon (Jonathan Roberts).
Four drivers accounted for 12 of the 15 race winners. Tony Morgan had four, Allan Davis and Tim Tetrick three each and George Dennis with a double.
TOUGH MAC DRAWS OUTSIDE IN $20,000 OPEN/HANDICAP TROT
Tough Mac, who won last week’s $20,000 Open trot from post 7 gets post 8 this week in the Wednesday, Jan. 27 feature race at Dover Downs. First post is 4:30 p.m.
Owned by Mike Casalino, Tough Mac will be driven by his regular chauffeur Corey Callahan. The seven-year-old has won two of his last three and three races this meet. I Like My Boss gets an important change in post positions moving to #5 with George Dennis driving for trainer Bob Shahan, Jim and Amanda Parson. Early in 2016, the homebred Delaware-bred trotter boasted a five-race winning streak. Bluebird Reverend and Montrell Teague, a winner in his last start, returns after a week off for Holly Case, Denise Dennis, Jay Johannsen and trainer Bob Reeser.
The other impressive starters include RBH Venture’s War Cry Hall (Ross Wolfenden), second last week, trainer Leigh Raymer, S.M. Moss and the Solomon’s Tirade Hanover (Vic Kirby), Ted Gewertz’s Panamanian Hanover (Tony Morgan). Jenny Melander’s Marabou (Jonathan Roberts) drew the rail with four wins her last five races and Bob Key’s Skates N Plates, fresh from a win last start and two win in three races gets Allan Davis in the bike.
In the $15,500 sub-feature for young trotters, two starters won last time out, Bob Shahan’s Machuca (A. Davis) and PCF Stable’s Kolbee ‘s Star (Callahan). Jim Moore’s fast gelding Royal Becca J (Jack Parker) was a strong second last week with Eric Good and trainer Gary Simpson’s Adrenalin Junkie (Jim Morand) third.
The rest of the field includes Max Walton’s Someway Same Hall (Art Stafford Jr.), Rich Stansbury’s Toolbox (Ross Wolfenden), second last week, Barbary Kinsey’s Myclaimtovictory (Kim Vincent), Gene Moss’ newcomer Bobs Girl (Tony Morgan) leaves from the rail while Al Moors’ Royal Status (Frank Milby) drew post 9 in the second tier.
