Pathtodover survived a long first over journey and eventually pushed ahead in deep stretch to win the $12,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace on Wednesday evening at Western Fair Raceway

.

The 3-1 second choice got away fourth from Post 4 with trainer Doug Bowins in the bike, but made her move as the field approached the three-eighths mark. Meanwhile, insiders Jinglejanglejingle (Jason Brewer) and the favoured Rev Me Up (Mike Whelan) battled alongside one another early on with the persistent Rev Me Up clearing to command before the :28.3 opening quarter.

Rev Me Up led the field through middle stations of :58.4 and 1:28 with Pathtodover looming to her outside. The favourite eventually caved under pressure as Pathtodover surged ahead down the stretch to score in 1:57.4. Jinglejanglejingle slipped up the pylons for second over Rev Me Up. The top three were separated by just half a length.

Pathtodover paid $8 to win for the 19th time in her career. Mario Marcogliese of Dundas, Ont. owns and bred the seven-year-old Straight Path-Armbro Kerchief mare, who is now two-for-four on the year. The lion's share of the purse pushed Pathtodover's bankroll to $121,233.
