According to a report on cincinati.com, there was an overflow crowd today at the Kentucky State Capitol Annex, as hearings in regard to permitting casino gambling in the state were taking place.

The article states that the House Licensing and Occupations Committee was hearing testimony today regarding a bill that would see the state's eight tracks given the ability to offer VLT gaming.

Nick Nicholson, president and CEO of Keeneland race track in Lexington was one of the many in attendance. He stated that the Kentucky tracks need to be able to offer VLT gaming, as the state is losing out to its competitors.

"(The Kentucky equine industry) is on the verge of being taken over by other states," Nicholson said about the state's $4-billion-a-year industry.

"Other states know it is an industry worth fighting for," he said. "House Bill 158 gives us the tools we need to compete."
